Older people - Better off under the Conservatives

Our Conservative led Government has protected older people against stiff opposition from both Labour and the Lib Dems. The fact remains that older people are better off now because of the Conservatives.

We have protected the value of pensions meaning that pensioners today are about £800 better off than before this government was elected. That is because this government has introduced the triple lock that means that the state pension rises by earnings, prices or 2.5%

We have also protected universal benefits for all older people despite huge pressure from Labour:

FREE BUS PASS

All people over 62 are entitled to a free bus pass for off-peak travel.

WINTER FUEL PAYMENTS

Those born on or before 5 July 1952 are entitled to £200 when the cold weather sets in and the over 80s receive £300. This is essential to help fight winter fuel poverty.

FREE TV LICENCE

The over 75s are entitled to a free television licence worth £145.50 for a colour set and £49 for a black & white TV
